The Anambra State Police Command has announced the recovery of the bodies of three individuals involved in a tragic boat mishap, which claimed the lives of renowned movie actor JohnPaul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, and another individual. The incident occurred on Wednesday as the cast and crew of a movie were returning to Asaba from a location shoot in the riverine area of Anambra West.
Initially, out of the 12 passengers aboard the ill-fated boat, seven were rescued alive by the police on Wednesday. Tragically, the bodies of two individuals were also recovered at the scene, leaving three individuals still unaccounted for. The authorities promptly mobilized marine police units to conduct search and rescue operations to locate the missing persons.
Providing an update on the situation, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the police, stated that the bodies of the three remaining victims had been recovered. He confirmed that two bodies were found on Thursday, April 11, 2024, while the third was discovered the following morning, Friday. The recovered bodies have been transferred to the hospital mortuary in Asaba, with the President of the Guild of Actors and Actresses duly informed of the developments.
